Is This Trip Right for You?

This active program covers a good amount of ground each day. Expect from two to three hours walking on some touring days. The pace is moderate, however you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steps and significant slopes. The altitude in New Mexico may be a consideration for those who have heart conditions or are otherwise affected by elevation. DAY 1, Saturday - Arrive in Albuquerque
Arrive in Albuquerque, New Mexico, lovingly named the "Land of Enchantment," with its multifaceted blend of enchanting natural beauty, serenity and fascinating history. Tonight, enjoy a Welcome Drink with your fellow travelers during the briefing by your Tour Manager. Your tour will begin with an orientation meeting with your Tour Manager at approximately 7PM on the day of arrival. We recommend that you select flights which arrive in your destination no later than 5PM on Day 1 of the itinerary or earlier, if possible
Overnight: Albuquerque

DAY 2, Sunday - City Tour of Albuquerque, Pueblo Cultural Center
Get acquainted with Albuquerque, once a tiny 18th-century settlement that today is a burgeoning city accented by historic neighborhoods, public art, and distinctive architectural designs. In the Old Town, built in the 1700s, the essence of old New Mexico is dominant from the town's Pueblo-Spanish flat style roofs and long porches to authentic stores and galleries. Then, travel to the unique Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, where you're immersed into the history and accomplishments of the Pueblo people. With a focus on Pueblo artists, the center strives to preserve their culture with exhibitions in the ever-changing galleries. In the afternoon, join an optional tour that includes lunch, followed by a visit to the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History offering insights into New Mexico's unique role in the history of the Nuclear Age. Afterward, an exhilarating ride awaits you on the Sandia Peak Tram that travels to the top of Sandia Crest with astonishing views in all directions. Tonight, a Welcome Dinner celebrates your arrival in Albuquerque

DAY 3, Monday - Bandelier National Monument, Santuario de Chimayo Church, Taos
Visit Bandelier National Monument, one of North America's oldest settlements. Here explore the ancient Pueblo culture and view ruins of homes still remaining in the sheer canyon walls. A stop for lunch before continuing to the Adobe Santuario de Chimayo Church, a National Historic Landmark and major pilgrimage site, dubbed the "Lourdes of the USA." In Chimayó, also famous for its distinctive weaving, visit the family-owned Ortega Weaving shop to view handmade rugs and clothing and watch a demonstration of the craft. Continue to Taos, view the St. Francisco de Assisi Mission Church, a National Historic Landmark, before arriving at your hotel. This community of talented artists and craftspeople were attracted here by the scenic beauty of the contrasting forests and deserts. Tonight, spend an evening at leisure to explore downtown Taos

DAY 4, Tuesday - Taos Pueblo, Millicent Rogers Museum, Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway
This morning, begin at the multi-storied Taos Pueblo*, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see the unique way of life revealed that has remained untouched for many generations. Learn about the Pueblo history, life, and culture. This typical Pueblo village dates back more than 1,000 years and is still inhabited by more than a hundred residents. Now a National Historic Landmark, Taos Pueblo is dedicated to preserving its ancient way of life. On to the Millicent Rogers Museum housed in a historic Southwestern hacienda, showcasing a spectacular collection of Native American pottery, jewelry, rugs and American 20th-century art. Time to linger on your own and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, or venture into the picturesque lanes of Old Taos. Later, depart for the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway (road permitting), a winding drive that traverses Wheeler Peak, New Mexico's largest mountain. Steeped in history and incredible scenic beauty, this drive features expansive views, a rugged and pure landscape and many remnants of the Wild West. Get ready for spectacular vistas!

DAY 5, Wednesday - Ghost Ranch & Museum, Santa Fe
Cross the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (road permitting), one of America's highest and most famous bridges, crossing the Rio Grande is truly a spectacular experience. Stop at an Earthship community and learn about sustainable housing made of both natural and recycled materials. Continue through the gorgeous desert scenery to Ghost Ranch, home of world-famous artist Georgia O'Keeffe, where she lived and worked. The area's stunning landscapes were immortalized in the major works of the artist. After lunch at the Ranch, take part in the Landscape Tour, enabling you to see the different panoramas through Georgia O'Keefe's artistic eyes. At the end of the day, arrive in Santa Fe, for an evening at leisure to explore this vibrant city

DAY 6, Thursday - Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, New Mexico History Museum, Canyon Road
Today's highlight is a visit to the renowned Georgia O'Keeffe Museum* that displays the major works by this 20th-century artist, featuring over 1,000 of her paintings, sculptures, and drawings. A tour of the city follows including a visit to the adobe Palace of the Governors that chronicles the history of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the region. After a tour of the New Mexico History Museum on the Historic Plaza, lunch at leisure in town. This afternoon, depart for Canyon Road, a magical half-mile in the Historic District of Santa Fe, containing more than 100 art galleries and artist studios. Enjoy some time at leisure to independently explore Canyon Road before returning to the hotel. Tonight, share wonderful stories of your trip through New Mexico with your fellow travelers at the festive Farewell Dinner

DAY 7, Friday - Return Home
Depart Sante Fe to return home. Passengers returning to Albuquerque from Santa Fe on Day 7 should select flights that depart no earlier than 9:00 AM. Santa Fe is approximately a 1 hour drive from the Albuquerque.

This afternoon partake in the optional excursion that includes lunch as well as the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History and Sandia Peak Tram. The Museum showcases the intriguing story of New Mexico in the development of nuclear technology. Exhibits cover the origins of the field, modern applications, and the future of nuclear science. Conclude with a breathtaking ride on the Sandia Peak Tram. At a distance of 2.7 miles, this is one of the longest aerial trams in the world. Enjoy amazing panoramic views of the Rio Grande Valley as you travel over the rugged canyon below.
