Is This Trip Right for You?

This active program covers a fair amount of ground each day. In Dubai, expect a few early wake-up calls, between 6 and 7 am and walking for two to three hours on some touring days. The pace is moderate, however you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs and steps. The longest time spent on the bus is the 2 hour drive to and from Abu Dhabi. Weather is very pleasant during the day from October through April but sometimes it becomes a little cold and windy in the evening. The optional tour of Desert Safari involves a rough drive over the dunes and low seating in the camp. It is not recommended for pregnant women, people with back problems or heart conditions. In Jordan, the program is minimally active and done at an easy pace. Most sightseeing involves approximately one hour walking; however, Petra requires a full day of walking on various surfaces. Time spent on buses between destinations ranges from 1 to 4 hours at a time. Sightseeing in Wadi Rum is done by 4x4 vehicle. This is a Classic program. For more information, click here.

The site of John the Baptist's settlement at Bethany where Jesus was baptized has long been known from the Bible and from Byzantine and medieval texts. The site has now been identified on the east bank of the Jordan River in Jordan, only 15 minutes by car from the Dead Sea Hotel. The Bethany area site formed part of the early Christian pilgrimage route between Jerusalem, the Jordan River, and Mount Nebo. This area is also associated with the biblical account of how the Prophet Elijah (Mar Elias in Arabic) ascended to heaven in a whirlwind on a chariot of fire. This is not to be confused with the village of Bethany near Jerusalem, where the Bible says Lazarus was raised from the dead. After the tour transfer back to your hotel.
