Know Before You Book - High & Low Water

European river cruising has gained in popularity for very good reason. It's a relaxing and convenient way to experience Europe while enjoying the comfort of a deluxe ship. However, before making the decision to reserve your vacation, please be aware of potential conditions which may impact your cruise. While most of the time river cruises operate exactly as planned, weather conditions may result in high or low water levels which impact a ship's itinerary and, on occasion, render a ship unable to sail at all. On very rare occasions, other events such as heavy fog, a damaged lock, or an incapacitated vessel blocking the river, may impact a sailing. These events typically occur with little or no notice. In the event that a cruise is partially or completely impacted, the itinerary will be operated by deluxe motor coach, accompanied by a Tour Manager, with overnights in hotels. The itinerary will include as many of the originally scheduled sightseeing features as possible, considering the travel time and distances required, as well as meals. While it is not possible to recreate the more leisurely comforts of sailings, we will endeavor to provide a comparable itinerary. These alternative services will be provided at no additional charge.

Entry Requirements:

Is This Trip Right for You?

This moderately active trip covers a fair amount of ground each day. Expect from three to four hours walking every touring day. The pace is moderate, however you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steps and significant slopes. There is a potential for a small number of sailings to be impacted by river water levels, or other factors which may impact safe navigation. This may cause part or all of the cruise itinerary to be operated by motor coach and may also involve hotel accommodations.

Discover the history, pageantry and sights of the city with a half day tour of London's West End. Begin with a drive through fashionable Kensington with its elegant squares and parks. Pass Harrods store and continue to view Piccadilly and Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament and the famous Big Ben. Continue to view Buckingham Palace, the London residence of Her Majesty the Queen. Your tour ends in the heart of the city to explore this afternoon at leisure. Perhaps join our in-depth optional tour of St. Paul's Cathedral and the Tower of London

DAY 4, Monday - Stonehenge, Bath
Today, depart London and head to the circles of Stonehenge. Located in the middle of Salisbury Plain, Stonehenge is unique among stone circles and its construction still defies belief. The first stone was placed here 5,000 years ago and the structure was finally completed 1,400 years later. Continue to Bath's Georgian Crescents to find elegant stone buildings with terraces, crescents, and graceful squares. Visit the original 2000-year-old Roman Baths and Georgian Pump Room with its natural mineral water. Later in the afternoon join the optional tour to the Village of Lacock. You will have time to explore the village before enjoying a delicious dinner at a historic local Inn

DAY 5, Tuesday - Cotswolds, Stratford-upon-Avon, Liverpool
Drive north today into the Heart of England through the villages of the Cotswolds, with its stone and thatch cottages, to the birthplace of Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon, a charming market town. View Anne Hathaway's cottage, the school that William Shakespeare attended, and Shakespeare's birthplace. Enjoy time at leisure in this historic town, where the Bard's plays are still performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Then travel to lively Liverpool for a change of pace, where The Beatles were born and rose to fame. With your guide, explore the notable sights made famous in song by the Beatles - Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. Then view the legendary Cavern Club where the Beatles began their journey to fame and Liverpool's stunning Albert Dock complex, a reminder of Liverpool's history as a great and prosperous port. Today, travel along the shores of Windermere, the largest lake in England at the heart of the rolling hills of the picturesque Lake District, stopping for tea and fresh-baked scones at a local farmhouse. Continue towards the charming village of Grasmere, the 19th century home of the poet William Wordsworth. Next, cross into Scotland at the border town of Gretna Green, famous for its "runaway" weddings, and past Moffat, known for its high quality wool products. Arrive in Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city, with its exquisite Georgian and Victorian architecture and winding medieval streets. During your stay, discover the city's rich heritage and historic buildings. Its Old and New Town are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Bid farewell to your tour manager in England and transfer to the London airport for your flight to Munich. Arrive in Munich and transfer to the port in Regensburg. The group transfer will operate at approximately 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm. The port is a 1.5 hour drive from the Munich airport. Embarkation begins at 3 pm. After arrival formalities, meet your Gate 1 cruise directors and relax on board. Tonight, a gala Welcome Dinner sets the mood for your delightful river cruise

Marvel at beautiful churches and one of the oldest stone bridges crossing the Danube. Return to the ship for lunch or spend the afternoon at leisure discovering the delights of Regensburg on your own. At 3:00 pm, the ship will set sail for Passau

DAY 12, Tuesday - Morning in Passau
Dock this morning in 2500-year-old Passau, known for its pastel patrician houses, cafes, cobblestone lanes and riverfront promenade. Explore Passau independently in the morning, or, join the optional full day tour to picturesque Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart and setting for the Sound of Music. The walking tour will include some of Salzburg's most historic sites including the Mirabell Palace, the Abbey, Salzburg Cathedral, and St. Peter's Cemetery. This afternoon the focus is on two of the most impressive monuments within London's original "Square Mile". Visit the Tower of London, a former fortress and Royal Palace that has witnessed 1000 years of history most notoriously as a prison. Now the Crown Jewels are kept here and you will have a viewing of these, as well as seeing the iconic Tower Bridge. Continue for a photo stop outside of St. Paul's Cathedral, where Charles married Diana in 1981. View the exterior architecture of Sir Christopher Wren's Dome, a masterpiece and landmark of London's skyline.
