Begin the day with a visit to Avila, a city that is completely encircled by 11th century walls and resembles a great castle more than a city. Avila has a number of Romanesque Churches, Gothic-styled Palaces and a fortified 12th century Cathedral, and was also the birthplace of St. Teresa of Jesus, a prominent Spanish mystic and Roman Catholic saint. On the tour, visit the outside of the Cathedral, San Vicente Basilica, St. Teresa Convent, and stop at Cerro de Los Cuatro Postes to admire one of the best views of the city. Depart Avila for Segovia, a city that once was an important military outpost in Roman times, evidenced by its magnificent Aqueduct, and served as a summer residence for some of Castille's kings. Segovia maintains one of the most remarkable complexes of medieval structures in all of Spain. Enjoy the included lunch at a local restaurant that will have characteristic Segovian fare, such as La Granja white beans, roast pork, and dessert (vegetarian and gluten-free options available). After lunch, enjoy a city tour, which includes the "Queen of Cathedrals", nicknamed for its grace and style and is the last Gothic Cathedral* built in Spain. Lastly, view the Alcázar, the most spectacular Moorish-era castle in the country. *During special events at the Cathedral, another museum will be visited.
Departs at 9:00 am. Pick-up and drop-off from Plaza de Oriente, 8. Approximate tour duration is 10 hours.
