Travel this morning from the modern city of Amman to the towering 12th century Ayyubid castle at Ajloun, nestled among sprawling pine forests. This magnificent mountaintop castle, built by one of Saladin’s generals in 1184 AD, helped to defeat the Crusaders eight centuries ago by dominating the routes leading to the Jordan Valley. Next, to the northwest corner of the country to see the ruins of the ancient town of Gadara, now called Umm Qais. The site offers remarkable panoramic views over the Golan Heights in Syria, the Sea of Galilee in Israel and the Jordan Valley to the south. Return to Amman for leisure time. Tonight, meet your Tour Manager and traveling companions at a welcome orientation

Meals: Breakfast

DAY 4, Thursday - Jerash , Amman City Tour
Travel north to the vast archaeological site of Jerash, known as the "Pompei Of The East", one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world, uncovered after being hidden in the sand for centuries. Tour the soaring Temples of Artemis and Zeus, the Roman Forum, Hadrian's Arch, the massive theatre and mile-long Street of Columns. Afterwards, discover contrasting Amman - a unique blend of old and new, with a history dating back to the Stone Age. Begin at the ancient Citadel, towering above the city, site of ancient Rabbath-Ammon. Excavations here have revealed numerous Roman, Byzantine and early Islamic remains. The most impressive building, known as al-Qasr ("the Palace"), dates back to the Islamic Umayyad period. See the Temple of Hercules and the Jordan archaeological Museum, with its extensive collection of antiquities ranging from prehistoric times to the 15th century. After a panoramic tour of the city and its suburbs, continue to the Roman Theater, an impressive relic of ancient Philadelphia, built during the reign of Antonius Pius. Pass through the bustling bazaars (Souks) to the modern part of the city where the American Embassy is housed on our return to the hotel
Optional: Dinner Package
Overnight: Amman
Meals: Breakfast

DAY 5, Friday - Mt. Nebo, Madaba
Travel along mountain-fringed King’s Highway towards Petra. On the way, visit Mount Nebo, where the Bible says Moses climbed to see the Promised Land, and where he is presumed buried overlooking the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Afterwards, visit a mosaic school and workshop where you will have the opportunity to learn about these incredible crafts. Continue to Madaba; enter the Church of St. George to view the vivid 6th century Byzantine map created of mosaic tiles depicting Jerusalem and the Holy Lands. After an included lunch, travel further to the town of Shobak, perched in a remote landscape. A great photo opportunity awaits you at the impressive Shobak Castle, formerly called Mont Real (the Royal Mountain), a reminder of former Crusader glory, dating back to 1116 AD. Pass through small villages and towns where olives, grapes, figs, and apricots are grown in the fertile fields. Arrive in the town of Petra for overnight
Optional: Dinner Package
Overnight: Petra
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 6, Saturday - Full Day in Petra
An astonishing day exploring Petra! Enter the "rose red" city hand-sculpted from a mountain range by the Nabateans in the 3rd century BC. Begin your walk (or ride) through the "Siq", a winding canyon road. At the end, you’ll gaze in total amazement at Petra’s most extraordinary monument - the towering Treasury building rising over 140 feet. Beyond, discover soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs, a theatre, burial champers and water channels - all remnants of a once great Nabatean culture. Today, Petra is both a Jordanian national treasure and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! There will be time on your own to further explore Petra before returning to the hotel with a stop at Moses Springs
Optional: Dinner Package
Overnight: Petra
Meals: Breakfast

DAY 7, Sunday - Wadi Rum Desert, Travel to Dead Sea
Morning departure to Wadi Rum, a surreal desert terrain of ancient river beds, wind-sculpted mountains, vast desert vistas and pastel colored sands. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, often described as the "Valley of the Moon", served as inspiration (and site of the filming) for T.E. Lawrence’s novel, Lawrence of Arabia. Ride in a 4x4 vehicle to explore the valley, with its looming rock faces that seem to grow directly out of the sand and endless skies. Cross the huge red sand dunes, and the eroded pillars of sandstone rock known as "The Seven Pillars". Then, a fabulous lunch in an authentic Bedouin Tent in the midst of the desert, where you’ll be introduced to "Zarb" -a selection of foods cooked in an oven with hot coals beneath the desert floor. Afterwards, we travel to our hotel in the unique Dead Sea area. Here, you can float in the "unsinkable" buoyant, salty waters at the lowest spot on earth. Take time to relax and enjoy the benefits of the mineral-rich therapeutic waters. Later this evening, a Farewell Dinner with your Tour Manager and travel companions
Overnight: Dead Sea
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 8, Monday - Full Day in Dead Sea
On your last day in Jordan, enjoy all of the delights of the Dead Sea. Pamper yourself with fabulous treatments, sample the Dead Sea’s renowned restorative powers, or just savor the beautiful surroundings and natural beauty of this area. Or, join an optional tour to the village of Bethany, the site of Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist. As it was also where the prophet Elijah ascended to heaven via a chariot of fire, the sites that make up Bethany were part of early Christian pilgrimages between Mt. Nebo and Jerusalem
