DAY 1, Tuesday - Arrive in San Francisco, Drive to Wine Country
Welcome to San Francisco! Proceed to the Rental Car Center to pick up your car and begin your vacation in California. Drive north to the rolling golden hills of Sonoma, birthplace of wine in California, known for fragrant vineyards and landscapes of trellised grapevines. The scenic drive takes you through historic and picturesque towns like the culinary boomtown of Yountville, known for the famed French Laundry Restaurant, and the spa town of Calistoga Hot Springs, home to the legendary Old Faithful Geyser. Stop along the way at prestigious wineries and restaurants before your descent into the wine country with its spectacular views. Tonight, we suggest you experience some of the area’s fine cuisine coupled with excellent California wine
    Drive Time: 1-2 hours*
    Distance: 60 miles*
    Overnight: Sonoma

DAY 2, Wednesday - Full day in Sonoma
A full day to enjoy all of the delights of this area. There are so many winery tours and wine tastings to choose from -- and so much to do. Now a food lover’s paradise, the area restaurants have introduced diverse tasting menus in all price ranges. Visit the historic attractions in Sonoma, rich with 19th century buildings. There is time to discover the many boutiques, gift shops, antique stores, galleries and the many seasonal farmers’ markets. The region is also known for its natural beauty with many outdoor activities such as canoeing on the Russian River, hiking along the rural roads, horseback riding, or bicycling along the scenic trails. In the evening, after a world-class dinner, delight in a performance at the Napa Opera House or take in some jazz and enjoy the lively downtown nightlife
    Overnight: Sonoma

DAY 3, Thursday - Full day in Sonoma
Enjoy a second day to discover the wine lands of Sonoma. Be sure to make reservations at the more popular wineries for their tours or tastings and at the most popular restaurants. Consider a Hot Air Balloon ride affording breathtaking panoramic views, ending with a Champagne Brunch, or, visit the 400-acre wildlife sanctuary in an open-air jeep. If you want to turn the driving over to a train conductor then take the Napa Valley Wine Train, which runs a scenic route between Napa and St. Helena on restored railroad cars. In Sonoma, you can explore buildings from California’s Spanish and Mexican past and some wineries have cellars or tasting rooms dating back to the late 1800s. To learn more about Napa winemaking, visit the Rubicon Estate; walk through the old and charming ivy-covered château. Tonight, more wine and restaurant tastings await you

DAY 4, Friday - Drive to San Francisco
Morning drive from the Sonoma Valley to San Francisco Airport. Perhaps try an alternate route. Return your vehicle and independently transfer to your hotel in San Francisco. This afternoon, begin your discovery of this beloved “City by the Bay.” The best way to see San Francisco is on foot combined with public transportation. This afternoon stroll around Union Square, complete with people watching, window-shopping and views of the astonishing architecture. Continue on to Chinatown, the largest of its kind in North America, with its open markets, storefront temples and hundreds of stores displaying Asian wares. Enjoy dinner tonight at one of the many restaurants or Dim-Sum shops
