The scenic drive takes you through historic and picturesque towns like the culinary boomtown of Yountville, known for the famed French Laundry Restaurant, and the spa town of Calistoga Hot Springs, home to the legendary Old Faithful Geyser. Stop along the way at prestigious wineries and restaurants before your descent into the wine country with its spectacular views. Arrive at the hotel of your choice. Tonight, we suggest you experience some of the area’s fine cuisine coupled with excellent California wine

The region is also known for its natural beauty with many outdoor activities such as canoeing on the Russian River, hiking along the rural roads, horseback riding, or bicycling along the scenic trails. Enjoy a second day to discover the wine lands of Napa or Sonoma. Be sure to make reservations at the more popular wineries for their tours or tastings and at the most popular restaurants. Consider a Hot Air Balloon ride affording breathtaking panoramic views, ending with a Champagne Brunch, or, visit the 400-acre wildlife sanctuary in an open-air jeep. If you want to turn the driving over to a train conductor then take the Napa Valley Wine Train, which runs a scenic route between Napa and St. Helena on restored railroad cars. In Sonoma, you can explore buildings from California’s Spanish and Mexican past and some wineries have cellars or tasting rooms dating back to the late 1800s. To learn more about Napa winemaking, visit the Rubicon Estate; walk through the old and charming ivy-covered château. Tonight, more wine and restaurant tastings await you

DAY 4, Saturday - Drive to Monterey
Travel along the scenic coastal route towards Monterey. Stop in the seaside resort of Santa Cruz, with its amusement-filled, old-time beach boardwalk overflowing with fast food seafood restaurants, souvenir shops and Victorian-era homes. Perhaps visit the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum or Natural Bridges State Beach. Before arriving in Monterey, stop to see the Old Mission San Juan Bautista, in a historic park surrounded by 18th and 19th century buildings. Nearby is an adobe home furnished with Spanish-colonial antiques, along with a blacksmith shop, stable and pioneer cabin. Then, drive past wetlands, artichoke and strawberry fields before arriving in stunning Monterey on the Monterey Peninsula with its extraordinary coastline and wind swept beaches piled high with sand dunes.
