This 15 day “on-the-go” program features the highlights of the Galapagos and Peru in an active itinerary which includes several walking tours as well as some early starts and long days.

DAY 1, Friday - Depart the USA/Guayaquil
Depart the USA for Ecuador. Arrive and transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure

DAY 2, Saturday - Afternoon on Santa Cruz Island
This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands. Arrive at Baltra Island, and then cross the Itabaca Channel to the island of Santa Cruz. Upon arrival, transfer by private bus to the Aventura Lodge. In the afternoon, head to Los Gemelos (Spanish for “The Twins”), two enormous collapsed lava chambers formed thousands of years ago. Keep an eye open for Darwin finches, vermillion flycatchers, and short-eared owls. Next on your tour is a visit to a 600-acre private reserve for the famous giant Galapagos tortoises. Here you can watch the tortoises roam freely and learn about these amazing animals and the efforts being made to save them. Continuing on your journey, a short ride takes you to explore one of the islands unique lava tunnels. This remnant of long gone lava flows has 20 foot high ceilings and stretches on for nearly 1350 feet. Before returning to your lodge, stop at the Red Mangrove Dive Resort for a snorkeling lesson to prepare you for the opportunities during your trip to explore the marine wonders of the Galapagos

DAY 3, Sunday - Sail to Isabela Island
Enjoy an adventure-packed morning as you head for the Itabaca Channel for an introduction to sea kayaking. After learning the basic techniques, a certified specialist will guide you along the shore of northern Santa Cruz as you explore the channel. As you paddle along, enjoy the beautiful scenery. The cliffs here are home to many sea birds including blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, and brown pelicans. There will be opportunities to snorkel in the channel, where sea lions, green sea turtles, and numerous tropical fish will often share the water. After working up an appetite, return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, a two hour boat trip will transfer you to Isabela Island. Upon arrival, check in to your lodge and enjoy a welcome drink and snacks while your naturalist guides discuss the culture and history of the islands. The remainder of the day is at leisure

DAY 4, Monday - Full Day on Isabela Island
This morning's outing takes you to Sierra Negra Volcano. A short hike up the slope leads you to the caldera, or large volcanic crater, of Sierra Negra where breathtaking views await. At this point, the tour will stop for rest and a light snack. The adventurous have the option to continue on a more challenging hour-long hike to Volcan Chico, where vents of volcanic gas & steam are abundant, and additional spectacular views can be found. After a morning of hiking, enjoy a lunch at Camp Duro prepared with fruits and vegetables grown on this beautiful farm. Following lunch, you can enjoy a stroll among the fruit trees or simply relax in a hammock. Perhaps visit the giant tortoises that the farm cares for in collaboration with the Galapagos National Park. After your visit to Camp Duro, return to the lodge. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure to explore Isabela Island on your own, or possibly consider joining an excursion to the Concha de Perla site. Here you are able to snorkel throughout the bay, trying to catch a view of the local inhabitants which often include sea lions and green turtles

DAY 5, Tuesday - Return to Santa Cruz
After breakfast, depart by boat for a tour of Las Tintoreras islet and bay. Along the way search for blue-footed boobies and Galapagos penguins gathered among the rocks. After docking, join a hike through an ancient, jagged lava field, home to large colonies of marine iguanas and sea lions. Following your hike, you can snorkel in the warm waters of the bay for a chance at an up-close look at marine life. Look for sea lions, sea turtles, white-tipped reef sharks, and the tangled underwater forest of mangrove roots. Return to the lodge for lunch and afterward depart for the two hour boat transfer back to Santa Cruz Island. Upon arrival, check back into the Aventura Lodge. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the Charles Darwin Research Station, a specialized breeding and rearing center for the endangered Galapagos Giant Tortoise. The station is a working branch of the international, non-profit Charles Darwin Foundation which works to protect and maintain the Galapagos' precious ecosystems. Here you will learn about the remarkably successful breeding program and get to see these amazing animals up close

DAY 6, Wednesday - Fly to Guayaquil
After breakfast, transfer to the airport in Baltra for your flight to Guayaquil. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the balance of the day at leisure

DAY 7, Thursday - Fly to Lima

DAY 8, Friday - Lima City Tour
This morning meet with your guide for an orientation. Afterwards, depart for a tour of Lima. Enjoy the sights of Peru's capital city with 2000 years of indigenous and colonial heritage before stopping at the San Francisco Monastery, famous for its 17th century architecture and world-renowned library. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure in the "Gastronomical Capital of the Americas" by exploring Lima's nightlife or sampling some of its many restaurants

DAY 9, Saturday - Fly to Cuzco, Afternoon at Leisure
This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure to explore on your own. This evening, enjoy dinner and music at a local restaurant

DAY 10, Sunday - Full Day Machu Picchu
Early this morning, transfer to the Sacred Valley's Ollanta Station and board the train* for Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site virtually unknown to the western world until Hiram Bingham III's "re" discovery in 1911. Spend the afternoon viewing the ancient citadel before boarding the train for your return to the Sacred Valley's Ollanta Station in the evening. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel in Cuzco

DAY 11, Monday - Cuzco City Tour
Enjoy this morning at leisure in Cuzco. In the afternoon, depart for a tour of Cuzco, view the impressive Colonial Cathedral in Cuzco, which contains over 400 paintings from the Cusqueña School in addition to colonial art. Continue on to visit the Koricancha, the Temple of the Sun, whose walls and floors were allegedly once covered by sheets of solid gold. This temple was once the most important religious site of the Incas

DAY 12, Tuesday - Raqchi & Puno
This will be a long and rewarding touring day. The regions you will pass through will provide a view of local Peruvian life in the agricultural fields. You will leave Cuzco early in the morning and travel through the Andes Mountain Range to Puno, located on the banks of Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake at 12,421 feet above sea level. En route stop at the Incan archaeological site of Raqchi, site of the Temple of Wiracocha, where you will see the temple complex, living quarters, storehouses, fairgrounds, and ceremonial baths. A box lunch will be served on the coach. If time permits there may be a visit to a local school en route to Puno. Arrive to Puno in the evening and check into your hotel

DAY 13, Wednesday - Excursion to Uros Islands
Today begins with a boat trip to the Uros Islands. These islands are completely man-made structures, and their inhabitants, the Uros, continue to maintain them as they have since pre-Columbian times, using totora reeds from the lake to build not only the islands, but also their houses. Return to your hotel later in the day and enjoy the balance at leisure

DAY 14, Thursday - Fly to Lima, Farewell Dinner
This morning transfer to the airport in Juliaca for your flight back to Lima. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner with local Peruvian specialties and say goodbye to your travel companions and Tour Manager
