    This 14 day “on-the-go” program features the highlights of Ecuador in an active itinerary which includes several walking tours as well as some early starts and long days.

    DAY 1, Friday - Depart the USA, Arrive in Quito
    Depart the USA for Ecuador. Arrive in Quito and transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day at leisure

    DAY 2, Saturday - Quito City Tour & Visit to Middle of the World
    In the morning meet with the tour manager for an orientation. The morning's tour of Quito begins with a view of the Congress Building, whose outside stone mural records Ecuador's history. Continue to Quito's colonial section to walk along the narrow cobblestone streets and feel the charm of 16th-century Quito. See the Independence Plaza, the Cathedral, Presidential Palace, and the Archbishop's Palace before visiting La Compañia Church or the Church of San Francisco**. Afterward, see the Middle of the World Monument, located at a latitude of 0º, and stand with one foot in the Northern and one in the Southern Hemisphere. This afternoon, transfer by bus to Otavalo
    **Please note that the itinerary may vary slightly based on local conditions and holidays, therefore La Compañia Church may be replaced with a visit to the Church of San Francisco

    DAY 3, Sunday - Otavalo Market, Transfer to Papallacta
    This morning, enjoy a tour of the market in Otavalo, one of the largest in South America and run by the local Otavaleño Indians. Here, enjoy the lively market atmosphere and browse the various stalls for traditional goods such as hand-woven clothes and rugs, jewelry, fruits, vegetables and more. Then, visit the surrounding towns of Cotacachi, known for its leather handicrafts, and Peguche, known for its beautiful waterfall. This afternoon, transfer to Papallacta located in the Andes Mountains. The balance of the day is at leisure to explore Papallacta's spas and hot springs, for which it is famous

    DAY 4, Monday - Transfer to Amazon Resort
    After breakfast, transfer by bus to La Punta Ahuano on the Napo River where you will board a canoe that will take you to your Amazon lodge. Enjoy the serene tranquility that the lodge has to offer and prepare to be amazed by both the wildlife and the culture inherent to the Amazon. In the afternoon, visit Ahuano to have the opportunity to meet a local Quechua family and learn about their way of life first hand before returning to the hotel
    **Please note upon arrival the lodge is approximately a 5-10 minute walk uphill from where passengers will exit the canoe

    DAY 5, Tuesday - Full Day Amazon
    This morning, you can hike to the Napo river for approximately two hours while viewing the beautiful flora and fauna up close. The Amazon rainforest is the world's largest ecosystem, so be sure to keep an eye out for the innumerable species of tropical plants and flowers, insects, and butterflies. Enjoy the views as you cross suspended bridges and fly through the jungle on a short zipline basket ride. At the end of the hike, enjoy a rafting trip on a traditional balsa log raft. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Consider a visit to the Butterfly farm
    **Please note this is an active hike and sections of the path include steps. Also, those who participate in the rafting trip will need to step through the water to reach the raft and will get wet during the ride

    DAY 6, Wednesday - Baños & Patate
    This morning, board a canoe for the short trip back to La Punta Ahuano and transfer to Patate via motor coach. En route, stop in the towns of Puyo, nicknamed "City of the Clouds, and Baños, noted for its thermal springs and beautiful highland scenery for a short tour of each. In Baños, you will be treated to a demonstration on vegetable ivory, a traditional craft that utilizes palm nuts to make jewelry and animal carvings. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to view El Pailon del Diablo or "The Devil's Cauldron", one of Ecuador's most beautiful waterfalls. In the late afternoon, check into your hotel in Patate. Enjoy the balance of the day at leisure

    DAY 7, Thursday - Cotopaxi National Park
    Today enjoy a visit to Cotopaxi National Park, home to some of the highest altitude volcanoes in the world. The picturesque Cotopaxi Volcano, rising more than 19,000 feet above the plains, dominates the scene. The park is also home to a wide variety of local wildlife including wild horses and the elusive Andean Condor. Passengers have the opportunity to take an hour-long hike around Limpiapungo Lake and take in the beautiful scenery of the surrounding plains and volcanoes, followed by a visit to the park's Interpretation Center. After the excursion, continue to Quito, nestled high in the Andes Mountain

    DAY 9, Saturday - Afternoon on Santa Cruz Island
    This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands. Arrive at Baltra Island, and then cross the Itabaca Channel to the island of Santa Cruz. Upon arrival, transfer by private bus to the Aventura Lodge. In the afternoon enjoy a tour of one of the islands most tranquil spots, Garrapatero beach, with your Galapagos naturalist guide. An easy trail brings you onto this white sandy beach surrounded by mangrove trees. A wide variety of birds call this beach home, including flamingos, finches, and mockingbirds. Marine iguanas and Galapagos penguins can ocassionaly be found soaking up the sun. The remainder of the day is at leisure

    DAY 10, Sunday - Sail to Floreana Island
    The day starts with a trip to Los Gemelos (Spanish for “The Twins”), two enormous collapsed lava chambers formed thousands of years ago. Keep an eye open for Darwin finches, vermillion flycatchers, and short eared owls. Next on your tour is a visit to a 600-acre private reserve for the famous giant Galapagos tortoises. Here you can watch the tortoises roam freely and learn about these amazing animals and the efforts being made to save them. Continuing on your journey, a short ride takes you to explore one of the islands unique lava tunnels. This remnant of long gone lava flows has 20 foot high ceilings and stretches on for nearly 1350 feet. Return to your lodge for lunch! In the afternoon, a two hour boat trip will transfer you to Floreana Island. Upon arrival, your tour will visit La Loberia. This beautiful locale is excellent for swimming and snorkeling, or simply relaxing. Perhaps, you will have the opportunity to watch a colony of sea lions lounging on the shore. From here, a short walk takes you to Floreana Lodge. After checking in, enjoy dinner with a local family and learn about the culture of the island

    DAY 11, Monday - Floreana Highlands, Sail to Isabela Island
    This morning, enjoy breakfast with a local family before departing for an open-air bus ride to the Floreana highlands. Along the way, your guide will point out wildlife and recount the colorful history of the island's first inhabitants and the tale of the “Floreana Mystery”. Upon arrival at the Asilo de la Paz (Spanish for “Asylum of Peace”), you will visit the cave of the pirates, which served as shelter for pirates and early settlers of the island, and the freshwater spring that provides water for the entire population of Floreana. While here, you can see endemic Scalesia trees, Galapagos petrels, which were once on the brink of extinction, and a nearby tortoise enclosure. After your morning tour, a two hour boat ride will transfer you to Isabela Island, where you will check into the Red Mangrove Isabela Lodge and enjoy a relaxing lunch. In the afternoon depart by boat for tour of Las Tintoreras islet and bay. Along the way search for blue-footed boobies and Galapagos penguins gathered among the rocks. After docking, join a hike through an otherworldly jagged lava field, home to large colonies of marine iguanas and sea lions. Following your hike, you can snorkel in the warm waters of the bay for an up-close look at marine life, look for sea lions, sea turtles, white-tipped reef sharks, and the tangled underwater forest of mangrove roots

    DAY 12, Tuesday - Return to Santa Cruz
    After breakfast, depart for a tour of the Wetlands. Your first stop is the picturesque white sand and palm tree lined Villamil beach. A short walk to the summit of Cerro Orchilla rewards you with astounding views of the beach. Next you will stop to see the Wall of Tears. Built in the middle of the 20th century by the prisoners of a penal colony once located on the island, this structure serves as a testament to the hardships suffered by those imprisoned here. On the path to the wall you can see lava lizards, Darwin finches, native plants, and if your lucky, some young Galapagos tortoises released from the nearby breading center. Return to the lodge for lunch and afterward depart for the boat transfer back to Santa Cruz Island. Upon arrival, check back into the Aventura Lodge. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of the Charles Darwin Research Station, a specialized breeding and rearing center for the endangered Galapagos Giant Tortoise. The station is a working branch of the international, non-profit Charles Darwin Foundation which works to protect and maintain the Galapagos' precious ecosystems. Here you will learn about the remarkably successful breeding program and get to see these amazing animals up close

    DAY 13, Wednesday - Fly to Quito
